I don't know what drove me to start making these. I guess it was the natural progression from working with Suzy. Her sewing skills have a profound affect on my work.
These pieces are my steps into exploring material, texture and structural work. I hope to get more in depth with developing a dimensional style and to further collaborate with my long time friend Suzy Hernandez (who did the sewing work). I saved up all the cigarette (more so cigarette) and candy inserts which are the metallic pieces that are sewn onto the paper (rives BFK) through a community effort largely spearheaded by my friend Little Crystal. In a way these pieces are a group effort and offer me an artistic communication with friends that consider themselves artists and those who do not consider themselves as such.
I went to TEAM and they printed a poster for me. It was an enjoyable experience and everyone at TEAM is so polite and courteous. They really know how to treat a lady. I know I'm not a lady but I can just imagine.
